Former President Donald Trump said he will end birthright citizenship for those who illegally enter the US if he is reelected to a second term in 2024.

In a bid to deter illegal immigration, Trump vows to end birthright citizenship for those who illegally enter the US

Trump’s plan, outlined in a three-minute video titled Agenda 47, emphasizes prioritizing the interests of America by preventing birthright citizenship.

“As part of my plan to secure the border on Day One of my new term in office, I will sign an executive order making clear to federal agencies that under the correct interpretation of the law, going forward the future children of illegal aliens will not receive automatic U.S. citizenship,” Trump said in the video.

“My policy will choke off a major incentive for continued illegal immigration, deter more migrants from coming, and encourage many of the aliens Joe Biden has unlawfully let into our country to go back to their home countries,” Trump continued.

As Donald Trump makes his third attempt to secure the presidency, he is encountering greater political obstacles compared to his campaigns in 2020 and arguably in 2016. DeSantis and Haley, Republican contenders, criticized Trump for the 2020 loss and called for a generational shift in GOP leadership.

Republican dissent and policy priorities in Trump’s campaign video

Republicans who are seeking to distance themselves from Trump have raised questions about why he did not construct a border wall during the time when the Republican Party controlled both Congress and the White House.

DeSantis has also rebuked Trump for adopting more left-leaning positions during the 2024 race, and he previously announced his decision to send troops to assist Texas in safeguarding the southern border.

Aware of his base’s priorities, Trump addressed various other topics in his campaign video, including criticizing President Joe Biden.

“My order will also end the unfair practice known as birth tourism where hundreds of thousands of people from all over the planet squat in hotels for their last few weeks of pregnancy to illegitimately and illegally obtain U.S. citizenship for the child,” Trump said. “Often to later exploit chain migration to jump the line and get green cards for themselves and their family members.”
