UPDATE 13:33 PM EST – Boulder police dept. chief says she listened to the 911 call herself, and heard shots fired in the background, describes threat as “very scary.”

However, the police chief says there’s no proof the initial caller, who said he has semi automatic guns and was ready to enter Boulder High, was ever on campus.

Boulder police dept. chief says there are no injuries and no deaths.

BACKGROUND:

Police on Wednesday looked into an unconfirmed report of an active shooter at Boulder High School. The school was placed on lockdown.

At 8:56 in the morning, the Boulder Police Department tweeted that they were looking into the report, which was still unconfirmed until 9:03 in the morning.

Boulder Valley School District issued the following statement:

Boulder High School is currently on LOCKDOWN (Lock, Lights, Out of Sight).

During a Lockdown, rooms are secured and students are instructed to stay quiet and in place. BVSD will provide more information as soon as possible.

If you are not at the school – DO NOT APPROACH THE BUILDING. Stay away from the area and await further information.

School on lockdown and others advised to avoid the area

Lockdown is in effect at Boulder High School. The institution is located south of Canyon Boulevard and east of Broadway, just northwest of the University of Colorado Boulder.

As a safety precaution, the Boulder Valley School District is currently evacuating students and staff from the school where a lockdown occurred, and taking them to a designated reunification point away from the school.

At the reunification point, families will be able to pick up their children around 11:00 a.m., according to the school’s Twitter account.

The location for reunification is Macky Auditorium on the University of Colorado Campus.

The school administration has asked that families send one adult representative with permission to pick up the child and bring identification if possible. They have advised using the East parking lot and doors of Macky Auditorium for access.

If any families are unable to pick up their children at the designated time, the school’s staff will stay with them until they can be picked up. If they need to make special arrangements, they should call 720-561-2200, the tweet said.

The district stated that school and after-school activities are canceled for the rest of the day.

The Boulder police have not found any victims or injuries

According to the Boulder police department’s Twitter, “buses are currently en route to Boulder High School to evacuate students to the reunification center.”

They still have no confirmed reports of any injuries.

Residents in the region below that is indicated in red have received a shelter-in-place order, according to the police.

More schools on lockdown

There have been reports of three more potential incidents at high schools in Colorado, following an unconfirmed report of an active shooter at Boulder High School and an unknown incident near Aspen Schools.

Despite investigations, no victims have been found at any of the schools and most have been cleared of any danger, the Denver Post reported.

Brighton High School was investigated by police after a threatening call was made to dispatch, and other schools briefly went on secure status as police looked into the situation. However, at 9:45 a.m., police lifted the secure status at Brighton High School, finding no credible threat.

Meanwhile, Cañon City police are securing Cañon City High School after a bomb threat was called in, but the validity of the threat is unknown and no injuries or suspects have been reported.

Ortega Middle School in Alamosa was briefly on lockdown due to a report of an armed person on the premises, but the lockdown was lifted within five minutes according to the Alamosa School District.

Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that Aspen Schools have been cleared of any threats, and reunification is in progress.
