US authorities have approved a potential sale of tanks and other military equipment worth $6 billion to Poland, the State Department said Friday as tensions mount in Eastern Europe.

The sale of 250 tanks, vehicles and other ammunition, which still requires Congress approval, would help Poland “meet current and future threats” in Europe, according to the statement.
