The United States on Friday welcomed the decision of Panama’s Supreme Court to cancel a Hong Kong company’s contract to operate two ports on the Panama Canal.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Washington was “encouraged” by the court ruling, in a brief post on X.
The ruling was harshly criticized by China, that vowed to protect the interests of its companies.
Danish shipping giant Maersk will temporarily take over operation of the two ports, the Panama Maritime Authority (AMP) said Friday.
