The US Food and Drug Administration will seek new clinical trials to uphold the approval of existing Covid vaccines for otherwise healthy people under the age of 65, senior officials said Tuesday.
“For all healthy persons — those with no risk factors for severe Covid-19 — between the ages of 6 months and 64 years, the FDA anticipates the need for randomized, controlled trial data,” FDA chief Martin Makary and Vinayak Prasad wrote in the New England Journal of Medicine, adding “the control group could receive a saline placebo.”
