Anybody familiar with Xbox will agree that the company always ships its controllers with batteries. Recently, many users took to social media platforms to complain that their devices arrived without batteries. If you have an Xbox controller that shipped without batteries, you can claim a free rechargeable battery at aka.ms/batteries.
Who is Eligible for the Xbox Free Rechargeable Battery?
If you bought an Xbox controller after December 2025, you may be eligible for the free AA rechargeable battery. To claim the offer, however, your Xbox controller must have shipped without batteries.
In a recent post on X, Xbox Support mentioned that affected players can visit aka.ms/batteries to claim a free rechargeable battery. The post further clarified that the affected players are those who purchased from the limited pieces shipped in December.
“A limited number of controllers have shipped without batteries since December. If you received one of these controllers, go here aka.ms/batteries for a rechargeable battery on us. All controllers moving forward will include batteries.”
If you fall under the category specified by the Xbox Support, below is how to claim your free replacement battery.
Here’s How to Claim a Replacement Battery Pack
It’s worth noting that the free replacement batteries you’re getting aren’t disposable AAs. Instead, it’s a rechargeable battery pack, which certainly offers superior value. It’s a big win if you’re eligible for this offer because Xbox’s rechargeable battery pack offers better long-term value and greater performance.
Speaking of how to claim the offer, below are a few steps you can follow:
- Visit account.microsoft.com to check your eligibility. On this page, you need to register the controller’s serial number.
- Choose “Register device.” After that, select “Register a new device.” Proceed and complete the registration flow.
- Next, choose the controller you registered and then select “Start order.” Onscreen instructions will pop up; follow them accordingly.
- For Category, choose “Accessory.” For Issue Type, select “Charge Kit.”
- If eligible, an offer for an Xbox Rechargeable Battery + USB-C Cable will pop up. Choose this one-time offer. Follow up with the steps to complete the order.
While this offer is great, many users still complain of not being eligible even though their Xbox controller shipped without batteries.
For instance, an X user said, “So I’m not eligible even though I never got batteries. I had to buy an iPhone wire for the pad when it arrived, what a joke.” For now, we don’t know exactly how many users this issue has affected since December.
