Chinese President Xi Jinping told his US counterpart Joe Biden that Beijing “will not sit idly by” if the United States continues to suppress “China’s high-tech development”, state media reported.

Xi emphasised that “The United States has launched an endless stream of measures to suppress China’s economy, trade, science and technology, and the list of sanctions against Chinese companies is getting longer and longer”, according to a readout of a phone call between the two leaders from news agency Xinhua, adding, “If the United States insists on suppressing China’s high-tech development and depriving China of its legitimate right to development, we will not sit idly by.”
