As long as a YouTube ad is skippable, the Skip button mostly appears after a few seconds. This feature gives users control over what they view, keeping the platform less annoying. According to claims, YouTube is now making the experience a lot harder for free users. Reports show that a new YouTube ad format with a large banner/card is keeping the Skip button hidden. As such, users are currently struggling to skip ads, as noted by PiunikaWeb.
Unskippable ads frustrate YouTube users
This issue started a few weeks ago, and users are already frustrated about the whole situation. Some users claimed there’s no skip button at all. Another person replied, saying the skip button is right behind the “freaking” card. To see it on your smartphone, all you need is to turn the device to landscape.

Three weeks ago, a similar issue occurred. One of the affected users in a thread asked in frustration: “How do you even skip that? Do you just let it run out?”
In another thread, users of the YouTube app on TVs are also reporting a similar issue. They mentioned that the ads are longer and unskippable. Most unskippable ads during streaming on TVs usually last about 30 seconds. However, users are complaining of getting up to 90 seconds of unskippable ads, according to Android Authority. With this unusually long ad time, one can easily conclude that YouTube is testing a new format. Perhaps the company has already rolled out the new format.

So far, the YouTube team hasn’t acknowledged this issue or spoken about it yet. But with more complaints surfacing, we’re hopeful they’ll say one or two things about it in the coming days. We’ll continue to keep our eyes on the issue of the YouTube ad banner/card that keeps the Skip button hidden. As soon as we find something worth sharing, you’ll be the first to hear from us.
