X links are not opening on Android, users report bug

X links not opening on Android

Normally, tapping a shared X link on Android bypasses the browser and takes you to the actual post in X. However, it seems this is currently not the case for many users. New reports show that users are facing an issue in which X links are not opening on Android devices. Instead, they’re stuck on the last profile they checked or on their timeline.

X Links Are Not Opening on Android, Users Report

Several X users are now reporting a frustrating bug across various social media platforms, including Reddit. The affected people said that shared X links fail to open when tapped on. They also mentioned trying different troubleshooting steps, but none of them is working. So far, they have tried:

  • Clearing caches
  • Rebooting smartphones
  • Reinstalling the X app

It seems the issue doesn’t happen all the time. As noted by PiunikaWeb, the X link worked perfectly for a bit. However, further testing showed that the X Links are indeed not opening on Android. In this case, tapping the link kept the user stuck on the homepage.

What’s even more interesting is that exiting the X app can direct a user to the post. For this to happen, you may need to remove your app from recent and then tap the link. But this may really not be a perfect workaround, as tapping the back button can easily take you back to the previous page.

Is There an Official Workaround Yet?

Currently, there’s no official workaround yet from the X team regarding the issue in which X links are not opening on Android. However, you may want to try the workaround below.

X Links Not Opening on Android

An X user suggested a temporary fix, which involves forcing links to open in your mobile browser. You can make this happen via the Android app settings. Follow these steps to enable this workaround:

  • Go to your Android app settings
  • Search “choose default apps.”
  • Go to X and set it as the default
  • Toggle off “Open supported links.”

We’re hopeful that the X team will address this bug sooner rather than later. We’ll keep an eye on them, and as updates come, you’ll be the first to know about them.
