Many people are sharing on social media that they have “canceled Disney+ subscription” due to Elon Musk’s comments on advertisers, including CEO Bob Iger.

X users ‘Canceled Disney+ subscription’ after Elon Musk tells advertisers to ‘go f–k yourself’ in new interview

In an interview with the New York Times’ Andrew Ross Sorkin, the CEO of SpaceX, Elon Musk, responded with “they’re trying to blackmail me with advertising, blackmailing me with money, go f–k yourself” directed at advertisers.

However, in that strong verbal attack against the blackmail attempts, Musk specifically mentioned Iger. “Hey Bob, if you are in the audience. That’s how I feel, don’t advertise,” he said. He added that users “already are,” boycotting Disney services.

Elon Musk’s remarks came amidst a growing controversy involving him. Major companies like Disney, IBM, and Apple paused advertising on Musk’s platform, X, formerly known as Twitter.

Musk’s response on an anti-Semitic comment led to this advertising crisis. In response to the advertisers pulling back, Musk conveyed a clear message through the interview.

#CancelDisney trends on X with users supporting Musk

Shortly after Elon Musk’s interview, thousands of users shared screenshots of their canceled Disney+ subscriptions. Beyond Disney+, users are also reporting cancellations of subscriptions to services like Paramount Plus and others.

“Canceled” and “#CancelDisney” are now trending on X.

If Disney doesn’t want to advertise on X then I quit Disney. Who’s with me? #CancelDisney.” one user posted.

Another user posted: “Message to @Disney #FuckYouBOB. You’ve chosen to stop advertising on @X to muzzle @elonmusk, so I’ve decided to cancel my subscription to your services. I no longer require access to your television programs. Let’s get this hashtag trending #CancelDisney.”

“I just canceled my Disney subscription to support X and freedom of speech and to protest woke programming,” wrote an X user, showing solidarity with Musk.

Some users are urging others to do the same.

“FREE SPEECH: I support @elonmusk’s decision not to cave to pressure from @disney to censor X users. To demonstrate that I’ve canceled my Disney+ subscription and subscribed to X’s Premium+. Will you do the same?” one person with the username @amuse posted.

Disney’s stock has dropped approximately 53% from its 2021 peak, resulting in a loss of around $180 billion. The increased competition in the streaming industry has been putting pressure on Disney+. It will be interesting to see how Disney’s next earnings call goes with all the competition in the streaming world affecting Disney+.
