China says tariff talks being held at ‘request of the United States’

China on Wednesday said upcoming talks on tariffs in Switzerland are being held at the United States‘ request, saying its position on the levies “remains unchanged”.

“Any dialogue must be based on equality, respect and mutual benefit. Any form of pressure or coercion will not work on China,” foreign ministry spokesman Lin Jian told a briefing.
