The Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) will be assisting Ukraine‘s recovery and providing essential aid to those affected by Russia’s 18-month-long invasion, Fox News reported Monday.

Clinton Global Initiative Ukraine Action Network commits to supporting Ukrainian nonprofits

At the Clinton Global Initiative 2023 in New York, officials announced the CGI Ukraine Action Network. The event also introduced a series of substantial financial commitments dedicated to supporting Ukrainian nonprofit organizations.

This newly established organization is officially launching on Tuesday. It strategically aims to rally CGI’s existing partners and global leaders to unite and fund fresh initiatives for the people of Ukraine. Its primary goal is to support the country’s resilience and address the urgent humanitarian needs stemming from the prolonged conflict.

Hillary Clinton, the former Secretary of State and a past presidential candidate for the Democratic Party, joined forces with Olena Zelenska, Ukraine’s first lady, to create this new organization.

Pope Francis was present at the event too, AP News reported. He talked with former President Bill Clinton and asked everyone to help solve global issues, like climate change and taking care of children.

“We are in need of a great and shared assumption of responsibility,” the pope said. “No challenge is too great if we meet it starting with personal conversion and the personal contribution that each of us can make to solve it.

The event aims to encourage financial support for people in need

Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, and Chelsea Clinton hosted the CGI this year. The theme is “Keep Going.” They want to bring together important people from politics, business, and charity work.

Since February 2022, Russia has been in conflict with Ukraine. The country’s infrastructure has been severely harmed. This includes damage to energy supply systems and harm to schools and civilians.

Attendees of CGI hope that this new organization will shine a light on the work of nonprofits in Ukraine.

One such nonprofit, Save Ukraine, is expected to receive pledges of support during the conference. The NGO has been setting up community centers to assist families affected by the war and rescue Ukrainian children detained in Russia.
