Coca-Cola Co. announced Tuesday that it will launch a new Coke product this fall made with U.S. cane sugar.
The decision follows President Trump’s recent statement claiming the company would shift from high-fructose corn syrup to sugar in its sodas.
In its earnings release Tuesday morning, Coca-Cola confirmed plans to launch a version of its drink made with U.S. cane sugar later this year.
“As part of our ongoing innovation agenda, we plan to introduce a U.S. cane sugar offering this fall to expand our Trademark Coca-Cola product range,” the company stated.
Coca-Cola sold in the U.S. is typically sweetened with high-fructose corn syrup, while cane sugar is used in markets like Mexico and parts of Europe. In the U.S., Coca-Cola made with cane sugar is commonly referred to as “Mexican Coke.”
The new product will complement the company’s existing lineup, Coca-Cola added.
