Forza Horizon 6 is a racing game developed by Playground Games. This game is expected to be available for all players on May 19, 2026. However, its early access officially started on May 15 for premium users. According to reports across different platforms, Forza Horizon 6 is currently not working on Steam for players with early access.
Why is Forza Horizon 6 not working on Steam?
For now, it’s still unclear why users with early access are unable to launch Forza Horizon 6 on Steam. According to the affected players, the game displays a black screen each time they attempt to initiate it on Steam. Others mentioned that the game crashes completely when launching.
Furthermore, some affected users mentioned that they were told to wait until the official launch date (May 19) before playing the game. Why should this be so when the users already paid for premium access?
The bottom line of these reports is that Forza Horizon 6 is not working on Steam for many users. When the players tap on Play, the game doesn’t launch normally. Instead, it starts by behaving like it’s booting up. But along the way, it stops launching and gives the aforementioned errors. Many users reported trying a few troubleshooting steps, such as updating graphics drivers, but nothing worked.
Are there official workarounds yet?
The good news is that the Forza Horizon developers are already aware of the issue. On May 15, the Forza support team acknowledged the issue on X by posting that they’re already investigating it. They also mentioned that an official fix will be available sooner rather than later.
Two days later, the team posted a follow-up message on X regarding the workarounds. To get started,
- Open the Xbox App for PC
- Choose your profile picture
- Navigate to Support
- Choose Gaming Services Repair Tool
- Tap on Start Troubleshooting
- Restart your PC and try launching the game
The replies to this post show that this workaround isn’t effective enough for all players. For instance, @evisceratorMK2 said: “I’m having this problem with the Xbox App version & this didn’t fix it at all. The game just crashes after the logos no matter what I do”.
If Forza Horizon 6 is still not working on Steam after trying the troubleshooting steps above, we recommend the following workarounds:
- Start by disabling Networking. After that, delete the saved data from C:/XboxGames. Next, re-enable networking, and then restart the game.
- Alternatively, try closing the RivaTuner Statistics Server, as suggested by @JasurbekNo1 on X. A user tested and confirmed that this effectively resolves the issue.
- Try using Alt+Tab to exit the game and relaunch it.
- Turn off HAGS from Windows Display-Graphic Settings. A user suggested this as an effective fix.
- Consider running the game as an Administrator.
