According to local health authorities, Mexico has reported its first three cases of flurona, a double infection of Covid-19 and influenza, in the states of Nayarit and Jalisco.

According to the state’s health secretary, Jose Francisco Munguia Perez, the flurona case was discovered in a 28-year-old woman in Nayarit.

Another two cases have been reported in Jalisco, according to Alejandra Natali Vega Magana, head of the University of Guadalajara’s emerging and reemerging diseases diagnostic laboratory.

The two patients, she said, had no serious symptoms and were “treated on an outpatient basis,” according to the Xinhua news agency.

According to the official, “flurona is not a novel substance,” as it has already “been registered in other countries in 2020.”

Mexico has confirmed 4,113,789 Covid-19 cases and 300,303 deaths to date.
