Helene, the ferocious storm bearing down on Florida, was upgraded Thursday to a “major” Category 3 hurricane and is expected to intensify further before it makes landfall later in the evening, US meteorologists said.
“Air Force hurricane hunters find #Helene a dangerous major hurricane. The maximum sustained winds have increased to 120 mph” (193 kilometers per hour), the National Hurricane Center posted on X.
