Niger’s rulers on Friday gave Nigeria’s ambassador 48 hours to quit the country, according to a foreign ministry letter, a copy of which AFP has obtained.

Because the ambassador had refused to attend a meeting at the ministry and because of “other actions of the Nigerian government contrary to the interests of Niger”, the authorities had decided to ask the ambassador to leave, it said. Similar letters were sent to the French and German envoys Friday.
