Pakistan resumes international flights despite rise in coronavirus cases

Islamabad, Pakistan – The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has announced the country will resume international flights from Saturday, May 30, 2020.

In March, the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) halted all international flights due to the rise of coronavirus.

In April, the government of Pakistan extended the suspension of international and domestic flights till April 30 in order to curtail the spread of coronavirus.

Despite growing coronavirus cases in Pakistan, the country has decided to resume the international flight operations. Operations of international flights will take effect from 11:59 pm tonite.

According to the official website, there are 64,028 coronavirus cases in Pakistan and according to the latest data, a total of 2,636 cases have been reported in the last 24 hours.

As per the decision of the Federal Government, the outbound international flights (scheduled, non scheduled and charter flights) operation has been allowed with effect from 2359 hours tonight.

Both national and foreign airlines shall be allowed to operate from all international airports of Pakistan with the exception of Gwadar and Turbat.

SOPs for outbound international flights have already been issued according to which airlines will be required to follow the SOPs of the destination country. Additionally, the disinfection of aircraft will be ensured and no congestion at airports shall be allowed.
