A portion of an outdoor roof at a train station in the northern Serbian city of Novi Sad collapsed Friday, leaving several people injured on Friday, according to emergency services in the area.

Footage posted on social media showed several ambulances and fire engines at the scene outside of the train station. Two excavators could also be seen digging through the pile of rubble.

“There are injured people,” Zoran Krulj, a spokesperson for Novi Sad Emergency Services, told AFP without providing an exact figure.

There was no immediate confirmation of any deaths caused by the collapse.

Novi Sad Mayor Milan Djuric and Serbia’s construction minister Goran Vesic were also at the station, the ministry told local media.

The Novi Sad Railway Station reopened in July after three years of renovation work. Construction work was still ongoing in parts of the station.

A high-speed rail connection between Novi Sad and the capital Belgrade opened in March 2022.
