US adds Chinese DJI drone company to blacklist

DJI Drone US Blacklist

According to the latest reports, a popular Chinese drone company SZ DJI Technology Co is being added to the US government’s economic blacklist.

A senior US Commerce Department official told during a conference call that the drone maker is being added to the blacklist by the US citing “human rights abuses” as the reason for the action.

Apart from DJI, Chinese semiconductor manufacturer, SMIC is also being added to the export blacklist of the U.S. “We will not allow advanced U.S. technology to help build the military of an increasingly belligerent adversary,” Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross said about SMIC in a statement.

Wilbur Ross said on Fox Business that the US was adding a total of 77 companies to the entity list, among 60 of them were said to be Chinese companies. However, Reuters reported that the commerce department was including about 80 companies to the so-called entity list, most of them Chinese.

“We urge the U.S. to cease its mistaken behavior of unwarranted oppression of foreign companies,” ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said during a press conference in Beijing Friday as a response to the US government’s actions.
