Last night, Virginia removed a statue of Confederate General Robert E. Lee from the U.S. Capitol. The commonwealth plans to transfer it to the Virginia Museum of History and Culture and replace it with a statue of civil rights icon Barbara Rose Johns.
Gen. Robert E. Lee’s statue has been there in the U.S. Capitol for 111 years alongside George Washington as the statue representation for the commonwealth of Virginia.
