Many content creators on Instagram have complained about low or dropped post reach. There seems to be no apparent reason for the decline in engagement.

Reports of Instagram algorithm issue: Post reach dropped or low

Appeasing the Instagram algorithm is no easy task, but lately, it has become even more difficult. Bloggers, bookstagammers, artists, and other content creators have reported a sudden decrease in their engagement.

Their posts do not seem to show on their followers’ feeds and get lost even after trying all the engagement boosting tactics. As a result, many have reached out to Instagram support to assist them with their issue.

A Redditor shared: “My views are so low on stories!? I’ve had my Instagram page since 2019, my page now has 54K followers, 10M+ accounts reached this month through my content, etc. Although for some reason my story views have been so low for 6+ months. I’ve tried adding stickers, polls, the new reaction sticker, etc and nothing works.”

In some cases, paid boosting has not been helpful too. And recently, some Instagammers shared that the issue worsened for them after the recent update.

They shared: “My post and reels are doing fine before May. Posts usually get 120+ likes and reels may vary on likes, but they get a lot of reach. I have a few reels blown up before with 100k views. My acc is only 1k followers. Now after May, my reach from everything has decreased by half.”

Instagram Head says ‘Reach drop is your fault’

Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, engaged in a Q&A session using the Stories feature to address questions. Among the queries posed, there was one regarding the detection of a potential “shadowban” on user profiles, which refers to a significant decrease in reach.

Unfortunately, Mosseri’s response failed to meet the expectations of Instagram creators, as he essentially placed the blame on them for the decline in reach. To be more precise, he expressed that there was a lack of interest from users towards their content.

Instagram users were quick to express their frustration regarding Adam’s response. Many thought it was a lame excuse and doesn’t help them with anything.

One user shared: “What an absolute dog sh*t excuse. Reach drops not because followers are “no longer interested in content”, but because your content isn’t in the format that the platform deems to be interesting. I’ve had plenty of examples of IG cutting reach to my posts because of this.”
