According to a recent report by the World Federation of Exchanges, the New York Stock Exchange occupies the first position on the top 10 list of the biggest stock exchanges in the world. 1- New York Stock Exchange (NYSE)

As mentioned earlier, the New York Stock Exchange, established in 1792, occupies the first spot on the list of the top 10 biggest stock exchanges in the world. That’s because the facility has a total market capitalization of 25.53 trillion U.S. Dollars, as of March 2020. Furthermore, NYSE has about 40% of the world’s stock market capitalization. Trading occurs electronically and operation starts at 9.30 am (EST) and it ends at 4 pm (EST).

2- National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotations (NASDAQ)

With a total market capitalization of $11.23 trillion, NASDAQ occupies the second position on the top 10 list of the biggest stock exchanges in the world. The New York-based platform started operation on February 4, 1971. And so far, it’s been favored by many top companies, including Apple, Tesla, Facebook, and Amazon. Furthermore, you’ll find a lot of indexes on the platform, however, the most common of them all is the NASDAQ100.

3- Tokyo Stock Exchange (TSE)

Established in 1878, the Tokyo Stock Exchange has proven itself over the years to be one of the best in the world. It has about 3,575 companies listed on its platform, including top brands like Toyota, Sony, and Honda. TSE currently occupies the third spot on the top 10 list of the biggest stock exchanges in the world because of its market capitalization of $5.1 trillion.

4- Shanghai Stock Exchange (SSE)

Shanghai Stock Exchange (SSE) sits on the fourth position on this list. Of course, that’s because of its popularity and total market capitalization of 4.67 trillion USD. According to research, SSE has more than 1,000 companies listed on its platform.

5- Hong Kong Stock Exchange

Next on the list of the top 10 biggest stock exchanges in the world is Hong Kong Stock Exchange. Established in 1891, the facility currently has about 1,955 companies listed on it. Furthermore, it’s currently occupying this position because of its total market cap of about 4.23 trillion USD.

6- Euronext

Euronext is the youngest of all the stock exchanges on this list. Although it was established in 2000, it has proven itself, over the years, to be the best platform in Europe. Euro next operates in Euro and has over 1,300 companies listed on it. Furthermore, it’s occupying the sixth position on the top 10 list of the biggest stock exchanges in the world because of its market capitalization of about 3.67 trillion USD.

7- Shenzhen Stock Exchange

With a market capitalization of 3.28 trillion USD, Shenzhen Stock Exchange sits on the seventh position on this list. The platform was established in 1987, however, it took it about three years before beginning operation. Furthermore, the stock exchange is an independent organization, based in China.

8- London Stock Exchange (LSE)

London Stock Exchange (LSE) is the oldest on the top 10 list of the biggest stock exchanges in the world. It was established in 1698 and has over 3000 companies listed on it. LSE currently occupies the eighth position on this list because of its total market capitalization, which is about 2.92 trillion USD.

9- Toronto Stock Exchange (TMX)

Next on the top 10 list of the biggest stock exchanges in the world is the Toronto Stock Exchange. Established in 1852, TMX currently has over 2,200 companies listed on its platform. Furthermore, the platform has a total market capital value of $1.75 trillion, making it occupy this spot.

10- Bombay Stock Exchange

Bombay Stock Exchange sits on the last position on this list. Well, that’s because of its market capitalization, which is about 1.51 trillion USD. The platform was established in 1875 and so far, it has about 5,800 companies listed on it.
