Facebook has been trying its hands in e-commerce for years. On May 19, the social networking giant announced the launch of Facebook Shops. It will allow businesses to set up storefronts on Facebook and Instagram for free. The company has partnered with third-party platforms like Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, and many others to power the Shops. Let’s check out all the juicy details including how to set up your own Facebook Shop.
You can now create a storefront on Facebook
The COVID-19 pandemic has forced millions of people to stay home. People are losing jobs and businesses are closing down. Many small businesses have tried to stay afloat by putting up an online storefront to take orders and then shipping the goods to customers. E-commerce sales have skyrocketed in the last couple of months due to stay-at-home orders.
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a live stream that Facebook Shops will make it easier for physical businesses to get started online. Shops will be available on the Facebook pages and Instagram profiles of businesses. They will also show up in ads and stories.
Facebook said the Shops will be free to set up. But when customers checkout using Facebook’s checkout option, the social network will charge them a fee. Businesses can also direct customers to their own website for checkout. The social network will also generate revenue through ads and other services. Businesses will be able to buy ads to promote their shops.
Your customers’ payment credentials will be stored with Facebook. And customers can use the same credentials to buy from Facebook and Instagram both storefronts. In the future, customers will be able to order goods, ask questions, get support, and track deliveries through Messenger, WhatsApp, and Instagram Direct.
Facebook has started rolling out Shops in the US. The new feature will be rolled out to Facebook and Instagram over the next several weeks. Instagram will get a dedicated shopping tab in the navigation bar later this year. The social network is also working to integrate loyalty programs with the Shops.

Currently, Facebook Shops is rolling out to businesses that sell with a Facebook Page Shop, Instagram Shopping or both. At present, only people who have received an email or notification from Facebook will be able to set up their Facebook Shops.
