Many Google Pixel 7 and 7 Pro users are reporting a crackling or popping sound issue with their phone’s speaker.

Google has proven itself as a top favorite in the Android industry with the Pixel 7 series. Its stronger chipset and performance-enhancing features provide consumers with an enriched experience.

But, flaws such as grainy camera photos, lost lock screen media settings, and other difficulties trouble owners.

Reports of Google Pixel 7 speaker making crackling or popping sound

Users of Pixel 7 have taken to social media to express their disappointment with the audio.

“Same issue with mine. Super annoying. The 1st few seconds are fine then the crackling sound turns on. It happens even when the call is on speaker or not,” another report said.

A similar crackling audio issue appeared on Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro devices a while ago.  According to reports, it was caused by a software bug that was later patched with the June 2022 upgrade.

The issue has reemerged in Pixel 7 and 7 Pro devices, but it is not limited to conventional calls. Some people notice it when listening to phone calls over loudspeaker or at a high volume, while others notice it when using a USB DAC.

Google replaces an affected user’s motherboard to resolve issue

A faulty motherboard is to blame for the problem, according to one of the affected users.  As a result, Google apparently replaced the motherboard in an attempt to fix the issue.

People who had been experiencing sound issues while utilising a USB DAC appear to have had them resolved with a firmware upgrade. And, while the December 2022 update notes some USB audio enhancements, there’s no mention of the crackling or popping sound issue during phone calls.

“Are you in the beta? I reported a bug with this issue when using a FiiO K1 external DAC and they fixed it in the latest beta,” a user posted.

If the recent update did not resolve the issue, users who remain affected can request that Google personally resolve the issue, by either replacing the motherboard or the device itself, as they supposedly did for one affected customer.
