Unemployed youth commits suicide by jumping from the third floor of a shopping mall in Karachi, Pakistan

According to reports, an unemployed man committed suicide Tuesday at 5 p.m. by jumping from the third floor of LuckyOne Shopping Mall on Rashid Minhas Road in Pakistan’s metropolitan city Karachi.

Police and rangers responded to the scene and closed off the area to the public while the incident was investigated.

Witnesses at the scene recorded a video of the tragic incident, which quickly went viral on social media.

After videos of the man committing suicide at LuckyOne mall were shared on social media, several people expressed their shock at the incident.

According to area’s Station House Officer (S.H.O) Jamil Abbasi, the victim suffered critical injuries after jumping from the third floor of the shopping mall.

“He was taken to a private hospital in Karachi’s Gulshan-e-Iqbal area where he was pronounced dead,” he said. Unemployment, according to the officer, was the most likely reason for the suicide.

According to local reports, he was interviewed for a job in a company before committing suicide, but he was turned down. The man committed suicide by jumping from the third floor of the building after being disheartened by the rejection.

The Management of LuckyOne Mall issued statement following man’s suicide

“The Management of LuckyOne Mall is sad to say that an unfortunate incident took place where an individual jumped before he could be stopped. The Mall authorities immediately took him to the nearest hospital and informed the police who are now investigating the case. This incident makes us all realize how fragile human life is and that it should be cherished. We offer our sincere & deepest condolences to his family on their sad loss. Please note that neither LuckyOne Mall nor any of its staff or tenants were responsible for or involved in his actions.”
