Hurricane Ida’s remnants hit the New York metro area on Wednesday night, causing severe flooding, as spotted in videos, in several areas of the city including Brooklyn, Manhattan, Staten Island etc. and major travel disruptions.
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio declared a state of emergency late Wednesday, citing “an historic weather event… with record breaking rain across the city, brutal flooding, and dangerous conditions on our roads.” According to the mayor, approximately 5,300 customers are without power.
MTA suspended all subway service in the New York City due to flooding.
Videos posted on social media showed catastrophic scenes including the cars trapped on flooded highways in multiple parts of New York City and New Jersey.
