YouTube users are reporting a widespread issue where playlists, including Watch Later videos, liked videos, and personal playlists, have gone missing from the platform. The problem seems to be affecting specific accounts, leaving users confused and seeking solutions.

Reports of YouTube users worried as playlists mysteriously go missing

One user said they attempted various troubleshooting methods and expressed their frustration on Reddit: “My playlists for watch later videos, liked videos, and my own playlists do not show up, and it’s only on my main account. The list of things I have tried to get the playlists to return is exhaustive, from turning off and on their iPad mini to reinstalling the app and switching internet connections. Is there something I am missing, or can I do nothing until YouTube decides to update the app again?”

Adding to the concern, a second user reported, “My playlists, both created and saved to the library, vanished from the app! I can still add videos to them, but not view them in one place. I can still view them in the browser, but not on the app. Haven’t updated the app recently and have uninstalled and reinstalled it, but no luck. Anyone have any fixes?”

Responding to this query, another user shared their frustration, saying, “They broke Library as usual, maybe they’ll start working again, but if they do what they did last time, be prepared to go through like 3 sections to see your playlist when you could just select it before. YouTube seems to want to make things as pointlessly difficult as possible.”

“It shows on my iPhone but not the iPad app,” said one user, highlighting the problem across different devices.

In addition to the disappearance of playlists, users are reporting that this issue extends to both public and private playlists. Some users have noted that the playlists work perfectly on their iPhones or laptops.

No acknowledgment from YouTube yet

The YouTube community is actively sharing experiences and potential workarounds, but there is no official fix yet.

Changing to another account on the app also appears to resolve the problem, pointing towards a potential account-related glitch, despite no changes made to settings.

Despite numerous attempts, including reinstalling the app, removing app data, restarting devices, and logging out and back in, affected users are still experiencing the problem.

PREVIOUS UPDATES (Apr 19, 2023)

According to multiple YouTube users, the ‘Liked videos’ playlists are missing or disappeared from their library on the mobile app.

The ‘Liked videos’ playlist is a valuable tool for individuals who want to revisit their preferred videos, discover related content, or share them with others.

Users find ‘Liked Videos’ playlist missing on YouTube mobile app, library section shows only custom and subscribed playlists

When accessing the Library section on the app, users only see playlists that they have personally created or subscribed to, and the ‘Liked videos’ playlist is not visible.

“@TeamYouTube Recently, whenever I go to my ‘library’ only recently watched videos show up. Not showing videos I liked. This happens randomly but has been going on for about a month. (Android user),” a user posted.

“No I’m talking about the videos that I liked, I also checked my brother’s phone and there is no longer the liked video category,” another user reported.

According to some reports, the disappearance of the ‘Liked videos’ playlist from the Library section on the YouTube mobile app may be due to the new user interface. It appears that the new UI is combining the ‘Liked videos’ playlist with other custom playlists, making it more challenging for users to find it.

Some users have found that they can access the ‘Liked videos’ playlist by navigating through their playlists to locate the specific tab.

The recently introduced ‘horizontal playlist scrolling’ feature on the app has faced criticism from some users. According to reports, the feature interferes with the standard vertical scrolling of the app. Moreover, some users find it difficult to view the video titles and thumbnails.

Issue acknowledged + potential workaround

YouTube support has taken notice of the issue and the team is working to resolve it. However, there’s no ETA for the fix.

There is a temporary solution to the problem of the missing playlist, while users wait for an official fix. One possible method is to uninstall the app updates or sideload an older version of the app, as the change causing the issue appears to be a recent one.

This may allow users to revert to a previous version of the app that still includes the ‘Liked videos’ playlist in the Library section.
