Asus ROG Phone 3 Black Crush Issue

The Asus ROG Phone 3, officially released 22nd July 2020, is the latest smartphone by Asus. In case you don’t know, the device is now available in some regions for sale. Speaking of what the phone offers, it comes with a lot of great features and high-end specifications. Some of them include the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+ SoC, 144 Hz / 1 ms AMOLED display for a smooth gaming experience, 16GB RAM, and many more. With these offerings, one would think the device is with no flaws. However, that’s never the case as new buyers have started complaining about the device. According to users of the Asus ROG Phone 3, they are experiencing a black crush issue.

We earlier mentioned some high-end features that Asus included on the phone. However, according to several reports, not all of them were available out of the box, on the device. Instead, Asus had to roll out an OTA update for users, before the features, including AirTrigger for gameplay, started working. Apart from that, the OEM also rolled out an update recently, which helped to address some bugs. The update was also able to enable the VoLTE on the T-Mobile network in the US.

According to the latest reports, several ROG Phone 3 users have taken to Asus Zentalk, complaining about experiencing a black crush issue. Recall that the same issue affected some OnePlus 8 Pro users in April.

While reporting the issue, many users mentioned that they still experience the annoying issue even when the brightness of their devices is 100%. Let’s have a quick look at some of the reports below:

According to ratnesh1maurya, the Asus ROG Phone 3 user mentioned that he’s experiencing the black crush issue, which affects virtually everything, including screenshots.

“Dear Asus team I am facing the same issue in my ROG phone 3, buying a so expensive device and after that, an issue showing up that is not good. Even I have taken a screenshot that screenshot is also blackish. Should I go for a refund?”

According to another user, he said:

“I am also suffering from black crush issue if it is a hardware problem then inform me cause I in the return period. Or fix it, if a software issue is there…”

When To Expect The Fix?

In case you’re experiencing the Asus ROG Phone 3 black crush issue, you might have to stop worrying about it. That’s because Asus will soon roll out a fix to address it.

According to a moderator, the Asus ROG Phone 3 black crush issue is as a result of a brightness bar bug. Furthermore, the moderator mentioned that Asus is aware of the issue, which affects users when watching Netflix and is already working on a fix as we speak. While the exact release date of the fix isn’t yet known, the moderator said it’ll come in the form of a FOTA update, which usually takes weeks.

“These extreme black crush images which come from Netflix are mainly related to a bug in brightness. This will be addressed as soon as possible. We are also looking at how we can decrease black crush overall. The FOTA process takes weeks as there are many steps of approval. I’m not sure if these changes will make it into the already planned FOTA. Regardless we will try to get it out as fast as possible so please be patient.”
