Aldo Rebelo, the former Brazilian minister of science, technology, and innovation. is urging the United States to declassify files concerning the 1996 Varginha UFO crash. This incident, often referred to as “Brazil’s Roswell”, occurred on January 20, 1996, in the southeastern city of Varginha, Brazil. Multiple witnesses spotted mysterious creatures with glowing red eyes.
Rumors suggested that two of these non-human entities were captured by military forces and later confiscated and flown to the United States.
The Incident
Multiple witnesses saw a cigar-shaped object moving erratically in the sky before crashing into a field. The site of the crash smelled strongly of ammonia and rotten eggs. Later that day, three young women walking past the field spotted a humanoid creature about four feet tall. They described the entity as having dark brown, oily skin, a large head and three horn-like bumps on it. They further said that the creature had glowing red eyes, which terrified the women and they fled the site.
Shortly afterwards, local military forces cordoned off the area and reportedly captured two entities. Marco Cherese, a local military policeman who allegedly handled the creatures with his bare hands died a few weeks later. The cause of his death was attributed to an infection that had rapidly spread. Moreover, reports from a nearby local zoo stated that several animals had mysteriously died around the same time. Authorities reported that the internal organs of these animals had completely blackened due to unknown causes.
Call for Disclosure
Speaking to the New York Post, Rebelo stated that the truth behind these events was important to the public and in the national interest. He claimed that the US government possesses secret files regarding biological entities and the craft recovered from the incident. He further said that Brazil would fully disclose its own findings on the matter as well if the US releases its files.
After the incident, the entities captured by local authorities were transported to a local hospital and a university laboratory. This is when the US government intervened. Reports suggest that US personnel allegedly arrived in Brazil and took custody of the biological remains and spacecraft debris in their custody. These were consequently flown back to the US for research purposes.
The year 2026 marks the 30th anniversary of this incident, prompting renewed scrutiny from researchers across the globe. Moreover, in the past few years, the US Congress has held hearings aimed at the declassification of files regarding Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAPs). Lawmakers such as Eric Burlison have actively liaised with international UAP investigators. The objective is to make global incidents part of the US disclosure agenda.
