Oculus Quest App Sharing Not Working, Users Say

Oculus Quest battery draining issue frustrate users

Oculus Quest is an all-in-one gaming device built specifically for virtual reality. Released in May 2019 and developed by Meta Platforms Inc., this device offers tons of amazing features. Besides, Oculus Quest is also very affordable, especially when you compare it to its successor – Oculus Quest 2. One highlight of both Oculus Quest and Oculus Quest 2 devices, however, is that users can always download apps and games directly through the company’s store. In addition, the devices also have an “app sharing” feature that allows users to share downloaded games easily. Unfortunately, the Oculus Quest app sharing feature is currently not working for some users, according to the latest reports.

What is the exact cause of the new Oculus Quest issue? Is there any official fix to resolve the problem? These are the questions you’ll find answers to as you read through the rest of this post.

Oculus Quest app sharing feature broken

Oculus Quest and Oculus Quest 2 are two different virtual reality headsets developed by Meta Platforms Reality Labs. One highlight of these devices is that they have an app sharing feature. This offering enables the admin account on an Oculus Quest device to share purchased apps with others, on the same headset.

However, the latest reports across various social media apps reveal the Oculus Quest app sharing feature is currently not working for some users. Instead of working, affected users reported that they now get an error message whenever they try using the app sharing feature. The message says: “Multiple devices can’t access this app at the same time”. Some users also reported they get this error message: “Already playing this game on a different headset.”

For now, the exact cause of the issue is still unclear. However, some Oculus Quest users said the issue started after receiving a new v38 update.

There’s a workaround to resolve the issue

Unfortunately, there’s no official fix yet to address the Oculus Quest issue, in which the app sharing feature is not working. The good news, however, is that the Oculus Quest team is aware of the issue and already working on a fix to address it. For now, we don’t know when the official fix will be available.

In the meantime, you can consider the following workaround to resolve the issue. According to this post, all you need is to follow the simple steps below:

  • First, you need to turn off the app sharing feature in the main profile.
  • After that, remove all added users.
  • Next, restart the Oculus Quest headset.
  • Last, turn on the app sharing feature again and re-add all users.

We’ll keep our eyes on the Oculus Quest team. As soon as we find any updates, we’ll let you know here.
