A person dressed as Pikachu, the most well-known Pokémon character, has gone viral on social media after a video captured them participating in the ongoing “anti-Erdogan” protests in Antalya, Turkey.

In the “Pikachu anti-Erdogan protests video,” the popular Pokémon character is seen running among demonstrators protesting the recent arrest of Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu. The unexpected appearance of Pikachu in a political demonstration has led to a wave of reactions online.

The footage a wave of reactions across multiple social media platforms, including Musk’s X (formerly Twitter).

One X user commented, “Now Erdogan knows he’s in trouble.”

Another user remarked, “It can’t be anything more hilarious than this with this background. Also, weirdly adorable but in a chaotic situation.”

Protests have erupted across Turkey following the arrest of Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu on March 19. Imamoglu, considered the main political rival to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, was expected to run in the 2028 presidential elections.

Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya stated that between March 19 and March 23, authorities arrested 1,133 individuals for participating in illegal activities during the demonstrations. Additionally, more than 120 police officers were reported injured.

Local media reported that the Mayor was detained along with 99 others linked to a corruption investigation, according to a statement from the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office.

As protests continue, the Pikachu video in the demonstration remains a trending topic, drawing global attention and becoming an unexpected symbol of the movement.
