Google’s Pixel lineup has been around in the smartphone industry since 2016. Millions of people across the world use these devices because they offer unique features and clean stock Android software. Recently, Google rolled out the March update to some of its older smartphones, such as the Pixel 4a (5G) and Pixel 5a (5G). This update comes with a lot of fixes and improvements across several areas including device performance, stability, and connectivity, according to Google. Unfortunately, it seems the March update also includes a couple of bugs. That’s so because some Google Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5a 5G users are currently reporting a fingerprint issue – they experience a delay when trying to unlock their smartphones.

As earlier mentioned, Google rolled out the March update to some of its Pixel devices, including the Pixel 3a (XL), Pixel 4a (5G), Pixel 5a (5G), Pixel 4 (XL), and many more. Google released the update to help address some bug issues affecting these smartphones. In addition, the March update also comes with new features and improvements in some areas.

However, it seems like the recently released March update also comes with a couple of bugs for the Pixel devices. According to the latest reports across various social media platforms, Pixel 4a/5a (5G) users now experience a delay when trying to unlock their devices with the fingerprint sensor. The exact cause of this issue is still unknown. However, many of the affected users suggested the problem started after the March update.

Let’s have a quick look at some reports regarding the fingerprint delay issue:

According to Lucsar, the user mentioned that since the March 2022 update came, his Pixel 4a device’s fingerprint takes one second extra time to unlock. Lucsar further added that the issue only surfaces when the screen is off.

Is there any official fix yet?

For now, there’s no official fix yet to address the Google Pixel 4a/5a (5G) “fingerprint unlock delay” issue. According to a recent post, the Google team is already aware of the issue. The team is currently working on a fix that will probably come with the April Update, as suggested by a Diamond Product Expert on the Google Support page.

If you can’t wait for the fix, there’s a workaround that you may try out to address the issue. According to Freenaute67, the Redditor mentioned that putting on your smartphone’s Always On Display feature will address this issue.
