The fifth generation of consoles is almost upon us, and as always it looks like that the PlayStation 5 will be butting heads with the new Xbox Series X console. Both of the consoles are scheduled for release in the final quarter of 2020,  and while a lot of the technical aspects, as well as the launch titles, have been mostly kept secret by both Sony and Microsoft, both of them have fully revealed the controllers for their respective systems. It is the PS5 vs Xbox Series X controller so let’s see how they fare against each other and which one of them comes out on top.

PS5 DualSense controller Overlook

In this PS5 vs Xbox Series X controller, let’s take a closer look at the PS5 DualSense controller first. The biggest change to the PS5 controller compared to all of the previous generations is the overall design. While it doesn’t stray too much from the familiar pattern with all of the buttons in the same place as well as the touchpad in the middle and the thumbstick, the color scheme is completely different and the L2 and R2 triggers are now adaptive. Another big change made to the PS5 controller is the replacement of the old “rumble” technology with haptic feedback which will increase the immersion of players by making the actions they perform in-game feel more realistic. Other notable improvements include a better microphone, the “create” button, and a USB-C port.

Now let’s take a look now at the Xbox Series X controller in this PS5 vs Xbox Series X controller battle and see how it measures up to PS5 DualSense.  While the PS5 controller appears to be a completely new entity, the Xbox Series X controller seems more like an upgrade to the Xbox One controller from the previous generation, which is not necessarily a bad thing. After all, if it isn’t broken, don’t fix it. The design is identical to the one from the previous generation but has some notable changes, like the addition of the new “share” button and the new and improved 8-directional D-pad. Another thing that the Xbox Series X controller has going for it is that it is completely compatible with PC and the previous generation console.
