PlayStation 5 Digital Edition vs PlayStation 5 With Disc

PlayStation 5 issues

Yesterday, Sony held the reveal event for its long-awaited gaming console. There, the tech company was able to show relevant details of the upcoming PlayStation 5. The greatest surprise of the event was that the upcoming gaming console will be coming in two different versions, including the digital and the standard editions. Since then, a lot of gamers have started asking for ‘PlayStation 5 digital edition vs PlayStation 5 with a disc’ comparison. They want to know the difference between the two of Sony’s consoles.

In this article, we’ll be showing you the PlayStation 5 digital edition vs PS5 with a disc comparison.

Summary of Sony’s PlayStation 5 Reveal Event

In case you missed the PlayStation 5 reveal event yesterday, here’s a brief of what happened:

The event started with a trailer of Grand Theft Auto 5, with the assurance that it’ll make it on the upcoming console by next year. The surprising part of that is the tagline – “Expanded and Enhanced” – at the end of the trailer. It hinted that there’ll be a story expansion to the game.

Apart from that, Sony also confirmed that there’ll be two different versions of PlayStation 5, including the digital edition and the standard PlayStation 5 with a disc. Furthermore, the tech company was also able to reveal all the products that will come with the upcoming gaming console. First, there’ll be a DualSense wireless controller, which will come with motion controls. As revealed during the event, there’ll also be an attachment of a headset and a camera with PS5.

PlayStation 5 Digital Edition vs PlayStation 5 With Disc Comparison

Looking at the ‘PlayStation 5 digital edition vs PlayStation 5 with disc comparison, the major difference is the Blu-ray disc drive, and it’s only present in the standard edition.

What it means is that you won’t be able to play any disc when you buy the digital edition. However, you can always go to the PlayStation Store and download any of your preferred games.

Unarguably, every game has physical copies, as well as downloadable digital editions. In case you’re the type that likes collecting physical copies, going for the standard edition will be a better option.

So far, what we are yet to know is whether or not the digital edition of PlayStation 5 will have more space than the standard PlayStation 5 with a disc.

Furthermore, since the PlayStation 5 digital edition has no disc drive, it’ll likely come slimmer and lighter than the standard PS5 with a disc drive.

PlayStation 5 Price Comparison

While still on the PlayStation 5 digital edition vs PlayStation 5 with disc comparison, I’m sure you’ll be wondering why should you opt for the digital version, without a disc tray.

Well, there’s an assumption that PlayStation 5 digital edition will be much cheaper than the standard PS5 with a disc.

In 2019, Microsoft utilized a similar tactic when it’s releasing the Xbox One S All-Digital. As a substitute for the Xbox One, the company introduced the disc-free version of the console at a cheaper price.

So far, Sony is yet to make any official release as to the price of the two versions of the next-gen consoles. However, there’s a possibility that PlayStation 5 digital edition will sell at a cheaper price for people who can’t afford the standard PlayStation 5 with a disc.
